Finding your perfect microdosing protocol is very simple. Once you find your protocol, you're going to know exactly how often you should (and should not) be microdosing.
There are a variety of microdosing protocols to choose from… So I am going to outline them in this post. I can not give you a 100% clear black and white answer...
You’re going to need to discern for yourself what makes the most sense.
The most important thing to keep in mind is you will need to take at least 2 days off per week. The reason you need to take a break is because it prevents building a tolerance to the medicine.
When people microdose consistently every single day, the active components in the mushrooms begin to build up in their system. They build a tolerance quickly, and need to increase their dose.
Here are the most common microdosing protocols:
The Fadiman Protocol:
Take a microdose 1 day. Take 2 days off. Then Microdose again on the 3rd day. This protocol would look like this:
Monday - Microdose
Tuesday - No Microdose. Transition Day (take note of any residual effects from the day before)
Wednesday - No Microdose. Normal day (Note how you feel without any microdose in your system)
Thursday - Microdose
Friday - No Microdose. Transition Day (take note of any residual effects from the day before)
Saturday - No Microdose. Normal day (Note how you feel without any microdose in your system)
And continue with this for 3 months.
The Stamet’s Protocol Version 1:
Take a microdose everyday for 5 days, then take 2 days off. This protocol would look like this:
Monday - Microdose
Tuesday - Microdose
Wednesday - Microdose
Thursday - Microdose
Friday - Microdose
Saturday - Day Off
Sunday - Day off
And continue with this for 3 months.
Note: You can choose any 2 days out of the week to take off from microdosing. They do not need to be Saturday/Sunday. The most important step here is to take 2 days off each week.
The Stamet’s Protocol Version 2:
Take a microdose everyday for 4 days, then take 3 days off. This protocol would look like this:
Monday - Microdose
Tuesday - Microdose
Wednesday - Microdose
Thursday - Microdose
Friday - Day Off
Saturday - Day Off
Sunday - Day off
And continue with this for 3 months.
Note: You can choose any 3 days out of the week to take off from microdosing. They do not need to be Friday/Saturday/Sunday. The most important step here is to take 3 days off each week.
Every Other Day Protocol:
This is another simple protocol. Basically you take your microdose 1 day, then the next day you would skip a microdose. This protocol would look like this:
Monday - Microdose
Tuesday - Day Off
Wednesday - Microdose
Thursday - Day Off
Friday - Microdose
Saturday - Day Off
Sunday - Microdose
And continue with this for 3 months.
Intuitive Microdosing Protocol:
Another protocol is called “intuitive microdosing”. This basically means that you will follow your intuition. When you feel like microdosing, you microdose. When you do not feel like microdosing, you do not microdose. Very simple…
I actually do not encourage this protocol. At least not until you have done at least 3 months of one of the more structured protocols…
My reasoning for this is simple. Healing takes consistency… And sometimes healing is uncomfortable. When people try the intuitive approach right away, sometimes they experience poor results. This is because they hit a wall of discomfort and then “intuitively” stop microdosing.
The “intuitive” reason they stopped is because microdosing brought up something uncomfortable. Rather than move through it, they avoided it.
Another reason is that people just forget. We are all busy. When people intuitively microdose, they will sometimes go weeks without dosing. The reason? They simply forgot!
I have found routine and consistency to be important, especially when you first start. This will give you a fair and accurate assessment of microdosing, and whether it works for you.
Finding your Perfect Protocol, and how Often To Microdose…
To find your perfect protocol, I would suggest following your own internal guidance. After your first 2 weeks of microdosing, you will have a clear idea of how often you will want to microdose for.
Some people find the effects are significant, and so they prefer to dose less often. While others find life is so much better, they want to microdose as much as 5 days a week!
I generally suggest the Stamets Protocol of 5 days on 2 days off for the first 3 months. This allows the medicine to work deeply in your system and provide long term benefits. Whatever you choose, I suggest you stick with it for the next 3 months.
Be consistent. 3 months can be a life changing period of time. Afterwards, you can reassess. You may wish to continue the same protocol for another 3 months, or you may wish to try a different one.
It is really quite simple. I have done my best to provide a healthy amount of information so you can make an informed choice. Just don’t overthink it! Get started and you will find your rhythm quickly.
